HOWELL, MICH- This morning, Livingston County Commission candidate Meghan Reckling proposed a three-point plan to the Livingston County Commission, which would increase public safety, expand broadband access, and provide residents with a $3 million tax break. The plan does this by using funds given to the county threw the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, better known as ARPA.

“These dollars were intended to help and improve communities they recover from the pandemic and government shutdowns,” said Reckling. Reckling continued, “I encourage the Commission to use this money wisely and in a way that will help us ensure we have a safe community, invest in more infrastructure, and would give people money back to help address the cost of living and record-high inflation rates that Livingston County residents are suffering from.”

Reckling’s three-point plan would do the following:

1. Address public safety by spending ARPA dollars to purchase additional EMS units that can be stationed at local fire departments in Putnam and Handy townships. This will help to reduce the EMS response time for residents living in Putnam, Unadilla, Handy, and Iosco Townships.
2. Invest more in our county’s infrastructure, providing residents greater access to broadband internet services.
3. Address the economy and the increasing cost of living by waiving residents’ 2022 winter property tax bill and backfilling that money with ARPA dollars.

The Livingston County Board of Commissioners has been discussing how to use the $37.2 million of ARPA funding they received and will start to decide how to spend the money later this year.
